The GEN3t is a portable transient recorder and data acquisition system. The standard 1 Gbit Ethernet interface supports streaming recorded data directly to the PC at 100 MByte/s. The optional 1 Gbit Optical Ethernet allows isolated control of the mainframe as well as cable lengths up to 10 km mi) while maintaining full streaming performance.
When more reliable or distributed storage of recorded data is required, the GEN3t supports an optional built-in non-removable Solid State Disk or can directly store recorded data on an external Network Attached Storage (NAS) device.
To synchronize the absolute time to other systems the GEN3t supports the PTP protocol on both the standard as well as optional optical 1 Gbit/s Ethernet ports.
Full transparent time and trigger synchronization on multiple GEN DAQ systems can be done using the standard optical Master/Slave synchronization connector.
For legacy or industrial systems the GEN3t optionally supports IRIG A & B or GPS based time synchronization.
The
GEN3t is configured and controlled using Perception software purchased separately and running on a user provided PC. This combination results in a sophisticated instrument for ultra-fast recording, analysis and reporting.

PTP V2: Precision Time Protocol; using 2-step master and End to End protocol (IEEE1588:2008) Master/Slave synchronization; Slave or Master mode on built-in connector Optional multiple Slave support scheduled for Q3 2014 IRIG and GPS scheduled for Q3 2014 |
PTP synchronization accuracy |
Synchronization accuracy reduces as network traffic increases on Ethernet port used for PTP synchronization ± 150 ns; < 10% load, no Ethernet switch used ± 500 ns; < 50% load, no Ethernet switch used ± 5 μs; < 80% load, no Ethernet switch used To avoid excessive network traffic reducing the PTP synchronization accuracy, separate the communication and PTP synchronization on two independent networks. Use 2-step master PTP aware switches to obtain best results across switches. Actual accuracy depends on switch used. The use of switches without PTP support will create unpredictable accuracy. |
Acquisition Slots Unused slots must be covered using the GEN DAQ blank panel. This closes the mainframe front panels for EMC/EMI and safety compliance but also regulates the internal airflow for correct cooling of the acquisition system. | |

Thermal control |
Every acquisition board and the acquisition system monitors its own temperature and status. This is used to regulate fan speeds and reduce noise while optimizing airflow and power consumption. |
Calibration |
Any changes to the acquisition system configuration may change its internal thermal gradients. As accurate calibration relies on a steady and repeatable thermal environment, calibration will be void if changes are made in the configuration. See the individual card specifications for calibration impact. |

The GEN series Data Acquisition System is one of the most sophisticated and powerful systems in the marketplace and demonstrates the quality HBM has to offer. The GEN series is "future-proof", modular and easily extendable. Depending on your type of application and requirements you can select between two mainframe models:
